Il Luogo
The wall painting is Keith Haring‘s last work and the only one that was conceived to be permanently installed. Invited in Pisa by Piergiorgio Castellani, then a young Italian student, who identified a secured a wall for the work, Keith Haring completed his mural in four days. The colors were donated by the paint factory Caparol and the artist was helped by a group of students and artisans. The mural covers the whole surface of the blind wall of the Convent of the Frati Servi di Maria, next to the church of Saint Antonio Abate. It represents a world in peace and harmony. A so called Pisan cross stands at the center, surrounded by the artist’s typical characters and human and zoomophic shapes that urge for the dialogue between humankind and environment. The wall painting was restored in 2011.
