The MAC – Museum of Contemporary Art “Ludovico Corrao” of Gibellina, established in 1980 at the initiative of the then mayor Ludovico Corrao, is a contemporary art museum embedded within a cultural and urban project that is unique in Europe, connected to the reconstruction of the city after the 1968 Belice earthquake. In relation to the works located throughout the urban space, the museum operates as a place for reflection on memory, artistic experimentation, and the relationship between art and territory. The MAC houses a rich permanent collection that outlines a historical-chronological exhibition itinerary, divided into eight sections, ranging from the early 20th century to the latest avant-garde movements. The MAC promotes and enhances Italian and international contemporary art, positioning itself as a meeting point between art, community, and the cultural landscape. The museum and the city of Gibellina Nuova, whose histories are closely intertwined, represent an unprecedented anthropological laboratory of contemporary culture, marked by a dialogue between architecture and the visual arts.
