Museo Casa di Goethe is housed in the building, in Rome, where Johann Wolfgang Goethe and his friend, the painter Johann H. W. Tischbein, lived between 1786 and 1788.
The Casa di Goethe is the only German museum based abroad, and preserves letters, books and drawings relating to the poet’s trip to Italy, to which the permanent collection is dedicated.
This Museum also organizes contemporary art exhibitions on the tradition related to travels to Italy, and to cultural exchange between Italy and Germany. Among its cultural activities, this Institution also includes a rich calendar of events and scholarship programs for writers, scholars and publicists.
