The monument was commissioned to Lithuanian artist Arbit Blatas to commemorate the victims of the Nazi deportation of the Jewish Venetian citizens during the occupation of 1943. The artist realized different versions of this work in France, United States, Italy and Lithuania. Monumento all’Olocausto consists of seven bronze bas-reliefs, sculpted after a series of drawings from Holocaust, an American TV series. The tiles are installed on a brick wall in the Ghetto nuovo and depict seven scenes related to the Holocaust. In respect of the Jewish prohibition of depicting the human figure, the face of the people represented in the work do not have discernable features.
