Il Luogo

This impressive sculpture was donated by Joan Mirò to the city of Milan and installed in front of the State Archive. A mysterious zoomorphic figure, with a triumphant face, a big concave belly like a cave, stands on two mighty legs covered of the typical signs of the artist’s surrealist phase. The subject of the work is the female protagonist of the play by Alfred Jarry ,Ubu Roi, which anticipated the surrealist movement and the theater of the absurd.
