Istituto Giapponese di Cultura was founded after the Accordo Culturale tra Italia e Giappone in 1954, but it started its activities in 1962.
Istituto Giapponese di Cultura is dedicated to the promotion and the dissemination of Japanese culture in Italy through a rich cultural programme. Apart from offering Japanese language courses, the Institution organizes contemporary exhibitions, conferences, movie screenings and concerts.
The Istituto has a rich on-site art collection as well as a Japanese design collection, and is responsible for the curatorship of the Japanese Pavilion through the various editions of the Biennale di Venezia.
