Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea Lucio Barbera, recently dedicated to the art critic from Messina, was inaugurated in 1998 and located in the former carpentry of the Regional Province of Messina.
The Galleria Lucio Barbera displays its own collection, including works of different artistic movements, such as Arte Povera and Pop Art, as well as some examples of Abstract art and testimonies of individual art visions, selected among the greatest artists of the Italian and international 20th century. Part of the collection is dedicated to those contemporary artists from Messina who have introduced the artistic language of the place to Italian and foreign countries.
