Complesso Monumentale Santa Maria della Scala was founded during the 12th century as a hospital, and over the centuries served as a welcoming place. During the 1990s, the complex was converted to a Museum/Exhibition venue, including civic and national collections, and hosting exhibitions.
Since 2008, Santa Maria della Scala has expanded its cultural programme to incorporate contemporary art promotion as well, through collective and personal exhibitions by international artists.
