CAMeC – Centro Arte Moderna e Contemporanea della Spezia, housed in an ancient building dating back to the late 19th century, was founded in 2004 with the aim of making the artistic funds deriving from the various editions of the Premio del Golfo and the donations of the Cozzani and Battolini collections available to the public. Since its opening, apart from being home to permanent collections, it has also been a venue for exhibitions documenting the diverse areas of the current artistic production and of the historicized contemporary scene.
Apart from hosting debates and days of study, the CAMeC owns a didactic department which proposes educational activities about art, dedicated to scholastic institutions and to the general public. It also organizes art-therapy courses.
