The Accademia di Belle Arti d’Egitto was established in 1929, thanks to the Egyptian artist Ragheb Ayad, whose will was to represent his home country in Italy through art, as well as to offer Egyptian artists a place where to learn about European culture.
The Accademia, following the bilateral agreements between Italy and Egypt, has been owner of a venue in Valle Giulia since 1965, and stands as the only North African Academy in the whole Europe.
The Accademia is home to a museum dedicated to Egyptian culture, and to areas hosting ehxibitions of Egyptian artists, whether established or emerging, along with Italian artists who have a significant relationship with Egypt. The building also includes a guesthouse for scholarship holders and scholars, a rich library and a venue for film festivals, conferences, concerts and folk dance shows.
