The Venue
Villa Romana was founded in 1905, when Max Klinger bought the neoclassical building of the Venue and, along with some other artists and friends, converted it to a place independent from academies or institutions. They also founded an Association dedicated to art in all its forms.
Ever since it was founded, the Villa Romana has been promoting the Premio Villa Romana.
Over the years, this Institution has hosted and promoted the works of several generations of artists, from Max Beckmann to Georg Baselitz.
Thanks to the generous support of patrons, it was also possible to build a pavilion in the garden of Villa Romana, where events of different kinds, such as exhibitions, concerts, conventions and film festivals are hosted. It also houses Radio Papesse, webradio and audio archive dedicated to contemporary art and experimental sound production.
