The Venue
Created for the opera Agnese di Hoenstaufen, performed at the Teatro Comunale in Florence in May 1974, the work was relocated in the square in front of the new Maggio Musicale Fiorentino theater, on the occasion of its inaugurations.
In his long career Corrado Cagli worked with different languages, from drawings to painting to sculpture to applied arts, and conceived scenes and costumes for the opera and ballets in Italy and abroad since 1948.
Uccello in gabbia, his latest stage design for the Maggio, is presented as a light and monumental geometric figure of steel tubes, which seems to transpose his pictorial compositions into three dimensional space. At the center of the structure a figure seems to represent the bird evoked in the title.
