The Venue
Conceived in 1996 by Fabio Cavallucci and Sergio Bettini and curated by Arabella Natalini from 2002, Tusciaelecta involved the municipalities of the Chianti region and Florence. The project aimed at building a significant relationship between artwork and context, through commissioning site-specific works by international artists. Two examples are shown here. Mauro Staccioli‘s work, conceived for the 1997 edition, was permanently installed in 2009. The vertical sculpture is a symbol of the town’s agricultural history and a sign that interacts with the surrounding architecture. For the 2008 edition, Mario Airò made a work for the pedestrian bridge that connects the center to the new area, activating it with colorful lights each time people use it.
