The Venue
Peggy Guggenheim Collection is housed in Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, an historical building overlooking the Grand Canal in Venice.
Peggy Guggenheim bought the palazzo in 1948 and, between 1951 and 1979 (the year of her death) opened it to the public to show her twentieth-century art collection.
Peggy Guggenheim then decided to gift the collection, along with the palazzo, to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in New York, which currently runs it and opens it to the public.
Peggy Guggenheim Collection has been expanding over time thanks to new private collections and long-term loans.
