The Venue
Opera per Torino is part of the project Artecittà. 11 artists for the Passante Ferroviario, commissioned in 1995 in the frame of the vast development plan of the city of Turin and curated by Rudi Fuchs e Cristina Mundici.
The covering of the tram railway tracks and the construction of the new viale della Spina provided the space for an itinerary of contemporary art works. The installation realized by the Danish artist Per Kirkeby is located in a pedestrian transit area, thus developed respond to the site and to be traversed by passers-by. The double-height porch structure appears as a perfect rectangle, referencing to Turin’s orthogonal urban planning. However, from inside, the structure reveals itself as a trapezoidal form, suggesting the ambiguity of the city itself.
