Museo Diocesano Carlo Maria Martini

Luogo

The Carlo Maria Martini Diocesan Museum is located in the Cloisters of Sant’Eustorgio, part of an ancient Dominican convent restored after the bombings of the Second World War. The museum, inaugurated in 2001, presents a permanent collection comprising more than one thousand works dating from the 3rd to the 21st century. These come from the Archiepiscopal Art Gallery, from churches of the Diocese, and from various private collections, including a section of 14th–15th century gold-ground paintings. With regard to contemporary art, an initial group of sculptural works by Lucio Fontana has been joined—mainly through donations—by numerous works from the 20th and 21st centuries, confirming the museum’s growing attention to contemporary art, also through its exhibition activities.
