The Venue
Sol LeWitt‘s relationship with the city of Spoleto is testified by a series of works realised between 1971 and 2000, when the American artist spent regularly part of the year in his house on the hills of Monteluco. The work Muro, developed on the occasion of the exhibition Incontri 1980: 20 Interventi di artisti contemporanei a Spoleto, stands on the lawn above a parking lot built near the public gardens, just outside the historic center. Like a diaphragm between city and countryside, the silhouette of the sculpture stands out against the landscape, close to the Spoletosphere, a geodesic dome by the architect Buckminster Fuller.
