The Venue
MACIST Museum is based in the large building inside the Gold Factory, a characteristic example of industrial archaeology. MACIST Museum was born from an idea and the sensitivity of some artists who decided to support a foundation that deals with cancer patients and, for this reason, calls itself an ethical museum. The aim is to enhance and make known contemporary world art, outside rigid categorisations and in its most successful qualitative expressions.
In addition to temporary exhibitions, the museum houses a permanent collection of works and installations from the 1960s to the present day by more than one hundred Italian and foreign artists from more than twenty countries. The Museum also defines itself as a ‘democratic’ reality, both for its free access and for the lack of a dominant artistic tendency among the works in the permanent collection.
