The Venue
MACC – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, housed in the 18th-century building of the Ospedale delle Donne, was founded in 1996, after the wife of Gianni Ballarò, an artist from Calatino, decided to donate the works of her husband. A contemporary art collection was later added to this first nucleus of artworks, after the acquisition made by the City of Caltagirone on the occasion of the Rassegne Nazionali della Ceramica from 1980 onwards.
The MACC now displays the works of national artists of the last sixty years, as well as a large group of works by local artists, with a particular focus on Art Brut.
