The Venue
Il volo dei numeri is a permanent light installation created as part of the project Luci d’Artista, promoted by the City of Turin since 1998. The on-going project takes place every year during the Christmas holidays when the city is illuminated with a series of works of art created by contemporary artists. Mario Merz‘s work is inspired by the Fibonacci sequence, a mathematical progression in which each number is the sum of the previous two. This typical theme of the artist’s work is declined in this case as a metaphor of energy and stands in relation to the curve of the dome of the Mole Antonelliana onto which the red lights, with numbers rising upwards, are arranged along a vertical line.
