The Venue
Located in the central Brera district, the sculpture is a gift from the Polish artist to the city of Milan. It represents a section of a male bust of unknown identity, cut at the height of the face. The work references to the idea of beauty in ancient Greece, interpreted by Igor Mitoraj with lucid distance. Inside the bust, the heart is replaced with a head that has a severe expression. Below, at the height of the ribs, there is a bust of a woman, made according to the canons of the classical tradition. After his first trip to Italy in 1979, Mitoraj developed a personal relationship with the classical world, which he treats as an archaeological find and translates in the allusive majesty of his mythical figures.
