The Venue
GAM – Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Roma Capitale was founded in 1883, when the City of Rome started acquiring works of art by the Esposizione Internazionale di Belle Arti of that year. Officially inaugurated in 1925, today it is housed in an old Carmelite Monastery of the 16th century.
Over the course of 20th century, the GAM has enlarged its collection with several works often acquired from exhibitions organized in Rome, with the purpose of creating a civic collection of contemporary art of national importance.
Indeed, this Museum displays works dating from the early 20th century to Pop Art and Arte Povera, the movements of the Sixties. The works are periodically exhibited on rotation in the halls of the museum. Among its activities, the Venue offers a rich calendar of exhibitions, events and educational activities.
