The Venue
The Forte di Bard, part of the network of castles in the Aosta Valley, represents one of the best examples of a barrier fortress from the early 19th century. Decommissioned in 1975 by the military authorities, the fortress was acquired by the Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley in 1990, which carried out its restoration and repurposed the spaces for innovative cultural services and high-quality hospitality. The fortress consists of three buildings located at different levels, and the spaces host, among other things, a section dedicated to workshops on the theme of climate change in glacial areas, the Museum of the Alps, and a path dedicated to the fortress’s prisons. The Mortar Works and the adjacent powder magazine host temporary exhibitions, often focusing on contemporary art, visual arts, and photography.
