The Venue
Contatto Arte/Città was conceived in the frame of the XV Triennale di Milano by Giulio Macchi, with the patronage and support of Paolo Marzotto. Twelve works were commissioned for the Sempione Park, with the aim of facilitating the access to contemporary art through interventions that would reformulate the public space in a participatory way. The works were realized through the collaboration between artist, city and companies. The works that are still located in their original positions are the concrete and painted steel theater conceived by Alberto Burri (destroyed in 1989 and rebuilt in 2015); the stone fountain by Giorgio de Chirico (last restoration 2011; original pieces at the Museo del Novecento, MI); the stage for orchestra and cavea in concrete and metal of Arman; the white cement reading kiosk by Giorgio Amelio Roccamonte. The other works have been withdrawn by the authors or destroyed.
