The Venue
Conceived in 1996 by Fabio Cavallucci and Sergio Bettini, and curated by Arabella Natalini from 2002, Tusciaelecta involved the municipalities of Greve in Chianti, Barberino Val d’Elsa, Castellina in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti, Impruneta, Radda in Chianti, San Casciano Val di Pesa, Tavarnelle Val di Pesa and Florence. The project aimed at building a significant relationship between artwork and context, through commissions of site-specific works by international artists.
Birth by Spear is an environmental installation within an olive grove. A terracotta perimeter in shape of an olive leaf contains newly planted trees, shrubs and bushes belonging to the ancient family of plants that historically accompany the growth of the olive tree.
