The Venue
Arte Metro Roma was supported by the Municipality of Rome and the public transport company Atac; the project was conceived and curated by Piero Dorazio, with the artistic coordination of Paolo D’Orazio . The initiative was launched in 1996, and involved over 70 internationally renowned artists in realizing large-scale mosaic works for the stations of Line A and B of underground of Rome. The sketches of the works entered the collection of Galleria d’arte moderna di Roma Capitale. The aim of the project was to create a diffused museum of contemporary art and enhance the spaces of the underground, in occasion of the redevelopment of the stations.
