The Venue
Arte all’Arte is a project initiated by Associazione Arte Continua with the aim of promoting the agro-environmental artistic district of the province of Siena and Florence. Each of its ten editions left site and context specific interventions by international artists developed for the territory and its community. In Colle Val d’Elsa a column that seems to disappear into the ground, with an open book atop, is the work of Ilya Kabakov. Red Girl of Kiki Smith ideally connects to the other two enigmatic figures kept in San Gimignano and Poggibonsi, it is a terracotta sculpture depicting a seated girl. Marisa Merz developed a work for the cisterna, underlining with a copper door the gravity of the architecture. Tadashi Kawamata has built a a domestic wooden door for the city gate that opens on Via Volterrana.
