The Venue

The project of the Monumento alla Pace dates back to 1974, when the sculptor Umberto Mastroianni donated to Cassino a work in memory of the bombing of 15 February 1944. The work was installed in the south side of Rocca Janula in 1987, year of completion of the restauration of the fortress and inauguration of the Parco della Pace. The monumental sculpture, resting on high plinth and visible from Cassino plain, evokes the dramatic energy of an explosion showing a tangle of tubular elements that strating from the center expand outwardly. A smaller version of the sculpture is installed in the central Piazza XV Febbraio in Cassino.
