The Venue

The project is part of Arte sui Cammini, a programme of public art promoted by Regione Lazio. Leonardo Petrucci selected for his intervention, curated by Barbara Reggio, the area adjacent to the archaeological site of the Piscine Carletti thermal area. Submansio VI is a large boulder of travertine, divided in two in order to leave a passage. On the internal facades of the sculpture, the artist engraved an extract from the Itinerary of Sigerico, a manuscript describing the pilgrimage made by the Archbishop of Canterbury in 990 AD through the via Francigena. From the excavation of the area prior to the installation of the sculpture, researchers discovered many significant archaeological preexistences that testimony the presence of thermal structures in this area since Roman times.
