The Venue
Igloo fontana is part of Artecittà. 11 artists for the Passante Ferroviario, a project of commissions of site specific art works curated by Rudi Fuchs and Cristina Mundici, developed in the frame of a vast urban redevelopment plan for the new avenue viale della Spina, that followed the covering of the tracks and the reorganization of the surrounding spaces.
A recurring archetypal form in the work of Mario Merz, the igloo represents an elementary shelter, a metaphor for the relationship between man and nature and the nomadism of the human condition. The fountain is composed of a central dome covered with stone slabs punctuated by the names of the cardinal points in red neon. From the large rectangular basin, oblique water pipes emerge and sprinkle water.
