The Venue
Gift of the artist to the city, Amphisculpture is an open-air theater installed on the natural slope of the Parco del Sole in L’Aquila, a green area surrounding the basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio. The use of local white and red limestone recalls the colors of the basilica. Amphisculpture is part of the project Nine artists for reconstruction (2011), curated by Roberta Semeraro, that responded to the earthquake of 2009, aiming at redeveloping urban spaces through art interventions. The theater has a capacity of 1,800 seats, and is included in the reconstruction plan of the park supported by Eni (2012). The works were conducted by the association Ro.Sa.M. from Venice, from the Beverly Pepper Projects Foundation, and Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio per la città dell’Aquila e i comuni del Cratere.
