The Venue
The work was exhibited for the first time in Milan in 1974, on the occasion of an exhibition of outdoor sculptures in Piazzetta Reale, and it was presented next to Anelito, Arco (a monumental work installed in 2012 at metro station San Siro), and Timpano, Continuità, Sviluppo (installed in 2013 at Triennale). These works marked the passage of Carlo Ramous‘ work from research on sign and matter to the study of geometric forms and their articulation in space, through open forms and dynamic lines. The exhibition in Milan in 1974, and the exhibition in Parma in 1973, revealed the urban dimension of Ramous’ work. Gesto per la Libertà is the first of his public sculptures in Italy and abroad.
