The Venue

Collezione Farnesina is the contemporary art collection owned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. In 2000, the then Secretary General Umberto Vattani decided to create this collection. The nucleus of the collection is represented by a group of works acquired by the Ministry in the 1950s and 60s; over the next decades it grew to become a high-profile selection of the milestones of 20th-century Italian art as of today.
The Collezione accounts for all the main national artistic events during the entire 20th century, with a particular focus on the movements of the post World War II period (Abstract art, Realism, Informalism, Transavantgarde, etc.), but also to the most recent visual research.
Collezione Farnesina can be visited by appointment every last Friday of the month; the collection is also open to public during the Open House Rome, in May, and for the Day of Contemporary Art, in October.
