The Venue
Palazzo Ducale – Progetto Monochromatic Light was founded in 2001 with the purpose of enhancing the 17th-century Palazzo Estense by blending ancient and contemporary art into one another. Inside the Appartamenti Ducali there are some permanent installations and paintings purposely created for the museum by European and American exponents of Minimal Art.
The Monochromatic Light museum displays monochromatic works placed in the existing stucco frames which used to contain the paintings of the Ducal collections, now lost. This creates a new type of interaction between art and historical architecture: a new dialogue between light, colors and the plastic features of the stuccos.
