The Venue

The Accademia di Francia a Roma was established in 1666 by the will of Louis XIV to host the winning artists of the Prix de Rome. Since 1803 the Academy has been housed in the Villa Medici, and has become one of the most active and vital cultural centers.
The Accademia di Francia today is still house to the pensionnaires, but it also promotes study and research activities, as well as events aimed to enhance every form of art. Among its various activities, the Academy hosts exhibitions to promote modern and contemporary French art, displaying the works of its own collection, among which there are works mainly created by the winning artists and by the directors, spread throughout the villa and the gardens.
